Department of Corrections (Canterbury)
The client has a requirement for the recording and storage of interviews between inmates and various stakeholders from the department.
Shipley’s Audio Visual Ltd from Christchurch was selected to provide a solution for a pilot programme involving six local sites at Rolleston and Christchurch Men’s prison
The brief was to upgrade outdated technology with the following criteria.
All recordings must be secure and this included storage onto a PC with a removable hard-drive.
Ease of use with intuitive GUI as users were not technically minded and there could be no “second bite” with the interview.
The solution presented and accepted for the recording of these interviews was the SMP351 from Extron Electronics.
The Extron SMP351 is an h.264 Streaming Media Processor which offers such key features for this pilot as follows-
- Process two high-resolution AV sources from up to five available inputs
- Record and stream simultaneously
- High-quality scaling
- Produces audio files that are compatible with virtually any media player
- To complete the solution Shipley’s Audio Visual Ltd provided TeleDelta Camera’s with keyboard control.
Russel; Williams from Shipley’s Audio Visual Ltd stated that the solution meets the client brief to the letter and they are now budgeting to roll it out to the rest of their sites.
Russell added that being able to source world-class products with grit local support meant that they had complete faith in the solutions they offered.
Lloyd Freeman, General Manager of AVW Ltd says that when they were approached by Shipley’s Audio Visual Ltd looking for assistance with the design it was obvious that the Extron SMP351 was tailor-made and this was proved to be correct.
Extron SMP 351 is a high-performance recording and streaming processor for capturing and distributing AV sources and presentations as recorded media or live streaming. It incorporates Extron’s FlexOS®, a flexible platform for automating system operation. Accepting HDMI, component, composite, and optional 3G-SDI signals, it applies two-window processing to the selected sources. The SMP 351 can record and stream simultaneously and can stream at two different resolutions and bit rates concurrently using a range of transport protocols and session management options. Comprehensive control and configuration features make the SMP 351 integration-friendly, and easy to control and operate. Requiring no licensing fees, the SMP 351 has a low cost of ownership, making it a cost-effective solution for delivering presentations to a larger audience.
